Every year, the Association for Development and Education of Youth “Safe Step” marks activities on the occasion of 16 days of activism. In 2019, the association paid special attention to the mark of 2 dates, namely the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 and the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery on December 2.
November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. On that occasion, activists of the Association for Development and Education of Youth “Safe Step” together with members of the group “Stop the Violence Before It’s Too Late” from Zenica performed “They Were Killed” in the town square in Bijeljina. The aim of the performance was to draw attention to the problem of violence against women, with special reference to women who lost their lives through violence – femicide.
The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is marked on December 2 every year. On that occasion, on December 2, 2019, Activists of the association “Safe Step”, with the support of the RING network, marked the day with a performance and street action on the town square in Bijeljina.
The goal of the performance and street action was to draw attention to arranged marriages, as a form of human trafficking, and that arranged marriage is not a tradition, but a criminal offense.
