A member of the association “Safe Step” Violeta Mrkaljevic attended a two-day training organized by World Vison BiH in partnership with the associations Kali Sara – Roma Information Center and the Land of Children, as part of the project “Strengthening local capacities in the fight against human trafficking in BiH”. The training was held at the “Board” hotel in Jahorina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country of origin, transit and destination for trafficking in human beings for the purpose of forced begging, criminal offenses, sexual exploitation, labor exploitation, domestic service, child pornography and forced marriages. Traffickers exploit domestic and foreign victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and exploit victims from Bosnia and Herzegovina in other countries. Pointing out some of the basic characteristics of this phenomenon requires the need for a comprehensive and coordinated response of all structures and levels of government and civil society, as well as the coordination and cooperation of all actors involved in combating trafficking in human beings.

The main intention of the project is to provide support in building the capacity of governmental and local actors in the field of combating trafficking in human beings in order to improve responses to the needs of prevention, suppression, protection of victims of trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
